Book: ONDE ROAD - Expeditions and Misfortunes of a Gonzo Journalist by Arthur Veríssimo - Realejo Books

Reporter, photographer, researcher, speaker and educator, Arthur Veríssimo discovered literature as a teenager, when two works by Indian guru Baghwan Shree Rajneesh sparked his interest in meditation and its “oasis of inexhaustible experiences”. Since then, he has traveled to India 27 times. In Brazil, amid forays as a DJ in the São Paulo nightlife and diving into hedonistic culture, he marked his time as a reporter at Trip magazine, with which he collaborated for almost three decades, describing an “inhospitable and surreal” world, even before the arrival of the internet. .

“Onde Road – Expeditions and Misfortunes of a Gonzo Journalist” reaffirms the author as a character in his own stories, dialoguing with his two previous works – “Karma Pop” (2010) and “Gonzo, 30 Years of Transcultural Journalism” (2014) .

The approach is the essence of the so-called gonzo journalism, created by American journalist Hunter Thompson, in the 1960s. The style values ​​not only the content of the article, but the reporter's confessional tone, as well as the behind-the-scenes and mishaps that surround him, as opposed to a merely objective approach. It is no coincidence that sarcasm and irony are very present elements in the narratives.

This characteristic also led some of the texts rescued by the book to be transformed into special reports for TV, on channels such as Record, SBT and RedeTV; and also in the series “Na Fé”, Veríssimo’s immersion in various religious manifestations in South and Central America, shown on the Discovery Network. Currently, Veríssimo produces reports for print and web publications, podcasts and TV, as well as series projects and a film about his life as a communicator.
