CHRIS JOHNSTONE is a doctor and assistant professor at the University of Bristol School of Medicine. After several years as a hospital doctor, he suffered a severe burnout reaction to stress and sleep deprivation from working over a hundred hours in a week. It was then that he developed proposals and methodologies and became a leading figure in the campaign to improve the working conditions of newly qualified doctors. It trains healthcare professionals in behavioral medicine and teaches courses that explore the psychological dimension of the planetary crisis.
He is known for his pioneering work on the importance of resilience training in promoting positive mental health.
Another important topic for Chris is the holistic approach, which he first became interested in as a medical student over 30 years ago.
After many years living in Bristol, Chris moved to the north of Scotland where he lives with his wife, Kirsty, their dogs and chickens, pursuing his love of growing fruit in their evolving woodland garden. He continues his coaching and training work, as well as his writing and music. His website is at www.chrisjohnstone.info
He runs workshops and training for facilitators at Working to Reconnect in the UK. Details at www.facilitationforlifeonearth.org.
