Thera

Impact

Pets consume more than 20% of the world's meat in their feed, contributing to a highly polluting industry, in addition to using conventional packaging.

Using a blend of insects and vegetable proteins, Thera combines health and sustainability in pet nutrition with ethical, healthy protein sources with the lowest possible carbon footprint.

Furthermore, the brand uses packaging that has a very low carbon footprint, made from sugar cane (negative CO2 emissions) and recycled PET.

History

Thera is formed by two entrepreneurs who decided to do something sustainable, disruptive and innovative in the food sector. They understood that the pet market has grown a lot in Brazil in recent years, increasing the impact of the sector on the environment. Alternative proteins made from insects have been consumed for millennia in Asian countries, such as China and Thailand, and for at least 10 years in Europe and the United States, with large producers and brands. They are excellent nutritional alternatives to replace traditional proteins, but with a low impact on production.

Producers

The insect industry, the final production industry and the packaging industry.

Products

Thera is a superfood, as it contains a blend of insect protein, flies of the Black Soldier Fly species, raised in a “farm factory” in the interior of São Paulo in a safe and clean way, which in the pre-larval phase is rich in proteins and healthy oils, with a very high quality amino acid and micronutrient profile. It also has a blend of vegetable proteins with banana, sweet potato, carrot, valerian herb and the amino acid tryptophan.

The brand also generates sustainability: 1 kg of insect protein produces less impact on the environment compared to what is needed to produce 1 kg of animal meat: 20x less water, 40x less area, 20x less CO2 emissions. And Thera packaging is made from green polyethylene (CO2 negative) and recyclable PET, meaning it is 83% sustainable.
