Impact

Re Baggs has a few roles: one of them is to help clean up our Earth. Of the fabrics we use in the composition of our products, 80% are in stock, leftovers, excess production and fabric samples, which have a high chance of being discarded or incinerated. Another role is to give new life to what has already lost its original use: through the upcycling process, we add value to fabrics that are obsolete. Re Baggs also promotes the reduction of plastic bags with market bags, multi-purpose packaging and bags to store your bulk purchases, such as fruit and vegetables. The brand strongly believes in the power that women have in their communities and neighborhoods. When a woman has high self-esteem and her work is carried out with passion, with her dignity and integrity recognized, she moves mountains in her family. With this, she spreads this energy to her community: her children grow up seeing a strong mother and this gives them wings to fly and seek their own paths of prosperity.

History

The creator of RE is Mercedes Cordeiro Drever. Meka was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and came to Brazil when she was still very young. In a family with seven children, her mother never used the term “throw away” because there was always someone who could use what was no longer useful. He learned from an early age to recycle and give new meaning to the use of various things.
In 2017, when he decided to start a business, he knew he wanted to combine his values: a sustainable look at our Planet, creating products that people would love to give to each other, a place where he could express his creativity and work with people who have talents that complement his own. . And then RE emerged, as a way of REthinking, REsignifying and REcreating.

Producers

Re Baggs' premise is constant give and take: it believes that we are all here to exchange. The brand works this way with its partners: everyone wins, because otherwise it won't make sense. The seamstresses who work for Re Baggs are incredible women who, a few years ago, found their power, their talents, their love for work and their family income. The brand works with some sewing groups, including Flor de Cabruêra, which is located in the far east of São Paulo, Cardume de Mães, in Taboão da Serra (SP), and the Retece group, in Santo André (SP). They are collectives of women who support each other and support the brand. Re Baggs creates, they sew. They are all driven by the “affective economy”. And they often create joints (but Mercedes doesn't sew! lol). They also work with women who embroider to personalize products, both manually and digitally. Both jobs require a lot of manual and artisanal work, done with love and care. They work with the raw material that already exists and this makes them even more creative. Fabric chooses Re Baggs - not the other way around, which is the most common move. Around 98% of Re Baggs' fabrics are made from recycled raw materials: thousands of PET bottles and tons of mesh are recycled and transformed into fibers and fabrics of high quality, durability, colors and super unique patterns. Re Baggs selects these fabrics, carefully curates them in factories, stores and warehouses and, with what they choose, creates, develops, cuts, sews and embroiders. Re Baggs is constantly weaving fabrics and people.

Products

Beauty, joy, utility - everything Re Baggs makes has a use and is plural. It aims to promote reflection on our consumption, on corporate gifts; wants to make gifts that, in fact, have something to do with the brand, with the recipient and with meaning for everyone involved. Through this process, we want to reduce the number of fabrics discarded in landfills, enhance and give visibility to seamstresses and their artisanal work.
