Impact

Piraporiando expands perspectives through books. There are those who think that opportunity is everything. Piraporiando thinks not. Opportunity is part of the path, but without perspective, it can pass by. There are many people who don't want something because they don't even see it as a possibility. And that's what racism does. It takes away perspective, it steals the possibility of dreaming. So, Piraporiando was born to tell that surviving shouldn't be something normalized. Live yes, dream yes, desire yes. We are desirous and desiring beings by nature. And life, wherever it is, should be lived, not survived.

History

Janine Rodrigues was born in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, but spent most of her childhood in the interior of the state. Lots of rain showers, roller carts, jumping rope, jumping bungees, jumping out of trees. Lots of hide and seek and many, many stories. Listening, reading and telling stories are expressions of the pulsating orality present in Janine's family.
She had little time with her father, but precious enough time for him to tell the true story of black people. He grew up writing and saving his stories. He graduated in environmental management and soon went to work for Ibama. Lived in amazing places and worked with traditional people. One day the desire to publish one of his stories came up and nothing was like before. Stories she wrote as a little girl were now in the hands of other children. Piraporiando was born, which, through its works, has an anti-racist and gender equality education program.
Janine remains passionate about stories. Loves yellow. Afraid of butterflies.
