Ornella Vintage
Impact
Thrift stores have increasingly gained ground as relevant agents in the circular economy, as they contribute to transforming fashion and consumption. Its positive impact transcends the limits of style, reaching environmental, social and economic spheres.
By giving clothes and accessories a second life, they help reduce textile waste and the demand for new products, relieving pressure on natural resources. This eco-conscious approach reduces the use of resources associated with production and the carbon footprint of transportation, and at the other end, generates less waste.
Socially, they encourage diversity in the world of fashion by offering a wide variety of styles from different eras, enabling individual expression and the creation of unique identities. They also challenge disposable culture by promoting the idea that fashion can be timeless. This counteracts the mentality of quick consumption and encourages a more conscious approach, in which people value and care for their pieces, prolonging their useful life.
Thrift stores offer affordable options to a wide range of consumers: people with more restricted budgets have access to quality pieces, often from premium brands.
Thrift stores play a vital role in changing the paradigm within the fashion industry. Not only do they positively impact the world of fashion, but they also encourage more conscious and responsible consumption, promote more ethical and environmentally friendly fashion and contribute to a more balanced lifestyle.
History
Designer and visual artist Melissa Luchini, founder of the brand, always dreamed of having a thrift store. Graduated in product design, she worked for 23 years in the fashion/textile industry, as a print, bag and accessory designer and colorist.
The pandemic and dissatisfaction with the direction of unbridled production in the textile industry and fast fashion led her to take her dream off the ground and start working with circular fashion, hence Ornella Vintage was born.
A boutique with quality and stylish pieces, selected, sourced and restored by the designer herself. A descendant of an Italian family, in 2004 she won a scholarship to intern at a bag factory in Firenze, which brought her even closer to Italian style and culture.
The name Ornella is a tribute to her mother, who sparked her love for fashion. From his father he inherited his passion for clubs, music and dancing. From Nonna, who was a seamstress, she ended up with an incredible collection of fabrics and, from retail to retail, Melissa has been stitching together her story through a lot of research to bring fashion pieces from Brazil and the world back into people's daily lives.
