Araquém Alcântara

Impact

Araquém Alcântara's work is a love letter to Brazil.
Through his evocative images, he documents the beauty of the country's natural treasures, not just the landscapes and wildlife, but the human dimension of environmental issues, and inspires feelings of wonder and awe in viewers.
The impact of his work goes far beyond the scope of art and photography: it is a testament to the power of visual storytelling in raising awareness about critical socio-environmental issues and illuminates the urgent need for their preservation. It is a call to action, a reminder of the fragile beauty that surrounds us, and a testament to the resilience of those who strive to protect it.
In a world where socio-environmental issues are increasingly urgent, Alcântara's photographs provide not only a glimpse into the heart of Brazil, but also a mirror that reflects the challenges and possibilities of our shared world.

History

Araquém Alcântara is considered by critics as one of the precursors of nature photography in Brazil and one of the most important photographers working in the country.
He was born in Florianópolis in 1951 and has used his lens for decades to capture Brazil's stunning yet fragile landscapes and the complex interaction between its people and the environment.
His vast production includes 57 books on environmental topics, 22 co-authored books, 3 international awards, 32 national awards, 75 solo exhibitions, in addition to countless essays and reports for national and foreign newspapers and magazines.
He has photographs in the collections of several museums and galleries, including the International Coffee Museum in Kobe, Japan; the Georges Pompidou Cultural Center in Paris, France; the British Museum in London, England; the MASP - São Paulo Museum of Art and the MAM - São Paulo Museum of Modern Art. He was the first photographer to document all of Brazil's national parks.
One of the most notable aspects of Araquém Alcântara's work is his ability to bridge the gap between art and advocacy. His exhibitions, books and public lectures serve as powerful platforms to educate the public and policymakers about the pressing issues facing Brazil's environment and people. His commitment to defending rights played a fundamental role in shaping the national and international dialogue on conservation and indigenous rights.
In addition to being a traveling photographer, he is a journalist, poet, teacher - an interpreter of Brazil.

Producers

A photographer's work is always done as a team. From the team that travels together as assistants and drivers, the team that works in the back office at the studio, the team that edits the images, the team that makes the books, the team that creates and organizes the exhibitions. Each project involves different people who dedicate their time and work to facilitate the dissemination of the art of photography.

Products

From the lush Amazon Rainforest to the extensive wetlands of the Pantanal, his photographs provide an intimate look at the intricate ecosystems and peoples that define Brazil.
Images can be acquired in 3 formats:
- Books;

- Fine art prints - made using exclusive handling techniques by the specialized ArtPhoto laboratory in São Paulo, with Hemp or Bamboo paper from the Naturals line from the century-old German company Hahnemühle, in formats and sizes designed to reduce the waste of scraps and edges and with 100% digital printing;

-Fine art frames - prints above in sustainable frames from the Eco Frames Collection which, for every 1 square meter of sheet of this coating, removes 13 PET bottles from the environment, thus promoting selective waste collection, the activity of numerous cooperatives and their respective collectors, generating income for workers, thus promoting social benefits.
